How to Tell if a PI is Reputable

When considering hiring a Private Investigator, it’s important that you’re choosing a firm that’s right for you, your situation and your budget. Delta 74 Private Investigations pride ourselves on providing meticulous private investigation services whilst handling it as sensitively as possible.

Whilst we have a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, as well as a team of highly-skilled professionals at the helm of our operations, there are some PI firms across the country who might not be as legitimate as you might have otherwise thought. So how can you spot an illegitimate PI company over a reputable PI business? We’re on hand to help you.

Private Investigator

Watch out for unrealistic claims

If a PI firm claims to be ‘the best private investigator in the county’ or ‘[city’s] number one private investigators’ then it’s, most likely, too good to be true, unless there’s some evidence or official awards that suggest otherwise. It’s important that you do your own research about a PI firm before going ahead.

Look at their reviews on Google, look them up on social media, ask around to see if anyone has heard of them or has anything negative to say about them. It might be that they don’t actually have the experience they say they have or they’ve claimed to work high-profile cases that they actually had nothing to do with.

Make sure you choose a firm you trust. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about their service and how they go about their investigations. Here at Delta 74 Private Investigations, we’ll always be happy to answer your questions or have a discussion about our services and expertise.

Don’t go for the cheapest firm

Like with most companies, the cheapest option isn’t always the best option. A lot of the time, you get what you pay for and that doesn’t stop with private investigating agencies. A good PI will not come cheap, but they’ll be competitively-priced and will do their best to accommodate you.

There are some very specific skills that are needed and only a PI will have them. It’s important that you’re hiring a highly-qualified, fully-trained private investigator, especially if you’re looking at having one of the following services carried out (all of which can be done by our specialist team here at Delta 74 Private investigations):

How much experience do they have?

Experience is always a great way to establish whether or not a company will be able to do a thorough, meticulous job when it comes to private investigations. Accreditations are also trustworthy for prospective clients, so make sure you do your research as to whether or not they’ve been presented with any awards or are members of official clubs and groups, such as the Association of British Investigators (ABI).

Here at Delta 74 Private Investigations, our team holds a Level 3 in Surveillance Techniques and a Level 3 Award for Private Investigators as an absolute minimum, all of which are the current SIA (Security Industry Authority) standard. This gives peace of mind to our clients that our firm is reputable, regulated and, therefore, trustworthy.

Look for Trade Association Memberships

Using ourselves as prime examples we are members of the Institute of Professional Investigators, the Association of British Investigators, the United Kingdom Professional Investigators Network and the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce. We have also won Best Business of 2019, 2020 and 2021, the badges of which you can see on our ‘About Us’ page.
